Leica M9 + M-Rokkor 40mm Street Photography at Queen Victoria Market

JC heads into the Queen Victoria Market for some afternoon shooting with his M9 and the legendary 40mm M-Rokkor. Markets make a great location to practice shooting, even if you’re making rubbish photographs. So get out there!

You’ll see all the results, even the terrible ones!

I've been taking terrible street shots on and off since around 2014. I started this site in a attempt to better understand the process of photography and write about it at the same time. While I’m obsessed with gear like pretty much all photography nerds, I’m also obsessed with good photographs that make us feel something. I hoping that through this site my photography will develop into something that makes you feel something (other than complete disappointment, of course).

Wow, really like your photo here! I’ve bought my D850 to the same place but don’t even want to take it out, it’s a beast for almost everything but still want an edc camera with high performance. I’m tossing up between R-D1 and M9, and I really want to know your opinion of these two.

    • For EDC both are amazing cameras! I’ve had and loved both, but I think the M9 has the slight edge due to the more modern tech: it takes modern batteries, SDHC cards, is much faster and has no crop factor. The R-D1 is a fantastic choice for sure, it just requires more patience and because of that probably wouldn’t be my first choice for a EDC walk around camera. Downsides of the M9 are weight and price but not much else!

Mate, thank you so much for the reply! It’s quite informative and helpful. In fact, I almost bought a M-P 240 recently, but have to give it up due to some financial problems.
Anyway, I’ve bought a new m-mount 35mm F2 lens from Chinese maker called 7artisan for the M-P, while I have the lens in my hand now, I’ve got no camera to try it out.
It may be too much to ask but I wonder if you want to try this lens out, meanwhile, I can get my hands on an M9 to see if it’s really my style of cameras or I’d better go for the M240 gen.

      • Hi Tony, sorry for the late reply I haven’t been checking the sites comments lately! I’ve been thinking of buying that lens myself actually. Shoot me an email if you’d like to set something up!
