Ricoh GR | Street Photography in Melbourne during COVID-19

We’re all still in lockdown here in Melbourne due to the COVID-19 virus. I have been trying to head out around the city to capture the emptiness in my allocated exercise time. On a rainy day, I decided to capture some terrible street photographs. Why? I guess it’s kind of like a sport or musical instrument, the more you practice the better you get. Not in my case I guess, but it’s worth a shot nonetheless.

Starting at the top of the Melbourne CBD around the Spring St/Parliament area I wandered around the to State Library and then a little farther into the city. I have to say, I really failed a lot on this one. Without doubt one of my worst outings yet. It’s fun to experiment, but damn I wasn’t even close to a keeper!

I've been taking terrible street shots on and off since around 2014. I started this site in a attempt to better understand the process of photography and write about it at the same time. While I’m obsessed with gear like pretty much all photography nerds, I’m also obsessed with good photographs that make us feel something. I hoping that through this site my photography will develop into something that makes you feel something (other than complete disappointment, of course).

  1. Hey man! Just saw your comment. I actually don’t use the MY1-3 modes. I have it set to full press snap, 1.5m, Multi AF, select my iso and locked on Tv (shutter p) mode. Usually I have the BW preset on but, not always. That’s my setup! 👍👍
